Hello Truro and surrounding areas community members! My name is Stephanie Atwood, and I have recently joined the Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre team as the new Women’s Support Worker. Prior to accepting this position, I have worked in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick with vulnerable persons, primarily women and youth. I have over 10 years experience having worked as a Program Facilitator with Community Services, Correctional Officer, Youth Program Coordinator and an Executive Assistant of a non-profit centre for youth and families. I have developed female specific programming and studied with reputable educational institutions and professional leaders in the community service sector such as Nova Scotia Community College, University of New Brunswick and online through Harvard University and University of Michigan. I am currently studying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and hope to continue my education and obtain a Masters in Social Work. On the side, I have opened my own business which is in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. Bender’s Bites provides pet grooming and all natural, homemade pet treats. Bender’s Bites was named after my Chihuahua, Bender. As you probably have guessed by now, I am a huge animal lover.I enjoy ballet, and writing. I love to travel, and take great interest in the European culture. I travel to Europe every year, but enjoy exploring my own province and its wonderful beaches with Bender just as much. Born and raised in Shelburne, I have lived in Pictou County for the last four years. I am excited to make Truro my new home, and be a part of this wonderful community. I am looking forward to working with all of you and offering services to our community. Happy Holidays, and see you all in 2018.
