Third Place Transition House is a 10 bed shelter that offers support services for women and children fleeing abuse and violence. We provide non-judgmental, inclusive, confidential services; offering a safe space for healing to begin. Third Place also offers Outreach Services, Public Education and Programming in Truro, Colchester and East Hants. Third Place is committed to the trauma-informed principles of awareness, safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment in the work that we do. Violence against women is a complex, societal issue, and abuse can take many forms; such as, physical, emotional, verbal, psychological, sexual and financial. We believe in the strength and resilience of women who face domestic, family or intimate partner violence.

Millbrook Family Healing Centre is one of two Shelters in Nova Scotia designed to serve Indigenous People. Our culturally relevant holistic programming is available to all Indigenous men, women and children who have experienced family violence.  All the Support staff are committed to assisting Indigenous women, men, and children to develop and maintain a healthy and violence-free lifestyle. Families can also receive programming through the Outreach program within their own communities with workers who are knowledgeable of their language, values, and lifestyle.

The Survivors of Gender-based Violence Benefit provides individuals and families who are fleeing or are planning to leave their home due to acts of gender-based violence with a monthly benefit to help pay their rent.

** You need to be connected to a service provider such as Third Place Transition House or Mi'kmaw Family Healing Centre.  This is because a component of the benefit is an "attestation form" from a service provider. You can reach out to one of those organizations and ask to speak an Outreach Worker about this benefit program.

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking is a national charity dedicated to ending all types of human trafficking in Canada.  Human trafficking in Canada is occurring at shocking levels. It is a sophisticated, organized crime and that demands sophisticated, coordinated and integrated solutions.

The Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking has been established as the national “backbone” organization working on this issue. The Centre collaborates and works with the various stakeholders dedicated to this issue, including all levels of government, private sector businesses and front line service providers in order to advance best practices and eliminate duplicate efforts across Canada.

Prevention starts with education to help vulnerable people protect themselves against traffickers. In partnership with ElevateHer, our community initiatives promote early intervention through workshops and case management for youth aged 12-24.

We help those impacted by sexual exploitation (aged 16-30) find healing and restoration through safe housing. There are two funded beds available in secure living spaces to help bridge the gap between reintegration and economic independence.
